Mentoring and coaching

Individual research mentoring and coaching

We offer mentoring to researchers, which may be combined with elements of coaching as required, tailoring to the needs of the researcher at that point in time (see testimonials below). Eneida has extensive experience in mentoring researchers at different stages of development, from pre-doctoral to reader levels, for academic staff in tenured and non-tenured posts. Eneida has been involved in informal and formal mentoring schemes across different countries, including the UK NIHR Mentoring scheme reserved for NIHR Academy members. She has also completed the NIHR Ashridge Leadership Programme, and remains engaged with her own Action Learning Set.

Get in touch to discuss your mentoring and coaching needs. Challenges and key skills for success in resesarch careers are very similar across biomedical and applied research settings. We have experience in mentoring/coaching professionals from both research fields.

Testimonials

Clinical lecturer – Ophthalmology (UK)

The mentorship I received from Professor Mioshi was nothing short of pivotal. During a transitional period in my career, moving from an early career researcher to an independent one, I found the guidance provided to be invaluable.

Professor Mioshi’s mentorship helped me navigate returning from parental leave, and the challenges of balancing a new phase of life with professional responsibilities.

Our conversations ranged from managing conflict and leadership development to work-life balance and self-care, not only met but exceeded my expectations. They served as a cornerstone for personal and professional growth, offering a safe space to address my concerns and providing the psychological and emotional support crucial for my journey.

This mentorship came at a time when I needed it most, and the profound impact it has had on my life is a testament to the power of supportive, insightful, and empathetic guidance.

Reader, clinical background – Rheumatology (UK)

Eneida exceeded all my expectations within the NIHR mentoring programme. Her friendly approach meant we easily and quickly formed a rapport, and she has just the right balance of using probing and challenging questions, whilst also giving some of her own experience and advice where appropriate.

She is a great listener and demonstrated this by bringing in details from conversations we had in previous calls.

Over the course of the 12 months Eneida helped me to gain confidence and consider challenges I would not have entertained before our mentoring relationship. I wholeheartedly recommend her for academic coaching!

Dr Zoe Paskins, Clinician Scientist

Research group leader, lab-based research (Australia)

Professor Mioshi is a brilliant and multi-skilled clinician, researcher, mentor and leader. Her years of experience in pushing the bar and expanding into new areas and methodologies is evident in the way she leads and mentors. I was privileged to have been mentored by Professor Mioshi over the course of 12 meetings, during which time she helped me navigate my return to research after multiple significant career disruptions. She is extraordinarily insightful and genuinely cares but also determined to challenge self-limiting beliefs and behaviours. She is also an exceptionally wonderful human being who is so grounded despite her many successes. Professor Mioshi exemplifies what leadership can and should be, and is an inspiration to all who know her.
